Container Condensation Accessories
Condensation can be an issue when storing goods in containers during the colder months. All Shipping Containers have vents with pvc baffles to help promote air flow and keep water be it rain or sea water out of the container itself, yet condensation can still occur.
This can be for several reasons including the fact that the floor in a used container may already be damp, but generally the answer lies in the goods that are being stored in the shipping container itself. All items, from sports equipment to clothes, mattresses to washing machines and dishwashers contain moisture. It is because of this moisture that condensation can occur during the autumn and winter months.
A sunny day, even in December, will turn that moisture into vapour, and when the temperature drops at night, that vapour will become water droplets that collect on the ceiling and start dripping.
We can supply moisture traps that really will deal with this problem. Developed for marine use to protect cargo from being ruined by the harsh conditions at sea, they really do work. These moisture traps are made only from PE/PP plastics and salt, which are non-toxic and recyclable. One moisture trap should last approximately 3 months in a standard 20′ (6.1m) container.
An alternative to the moisture traps is to apply ‘Grafo’ to the ceiling of the container. This is a product that was developed by British Steel in order to prevent condensation from corroding purlins etc in such things as aircraft hangers. It is applied in a spray to the ceiling where water droplets normally form and absorbs the water until the temperature changes and it releases the vapour back into the atmosphere.
